Name of LSU Alumnus Unveiled on Wall of Honor<\/strong><\/p>\n

As groups across America recalled the contributions and sacrifices of its military veterans, LSU paid special tribute to alumnus Cpl. Nathan Brock Carse, who was killed in Afghanistan earlier this year. Carse\u2019s named was unveiled on the LSU War Memorial Wall of Honor on May 30 during the annual LSU Memorial Day Ceremony sponsored by the University and Cadets of the Ole War Skule.
\nCarse, a native of Harrod, Ohio, earned a master\u2019s degree in civil engineering from LSU in 2007. He died Feb. 8 in Kandahar province, while serving with the 595th Engineer Company \u201cSapper.\u201d<\/p>\n

After Carse\u2019s name was unveiled by LSU Corps Commander Cadet Col. Jason Brewer, Chancellor Michael Martin and incoming Cadets of the Ole War Skule President Norman Deumite presented an etched rendering of his name to his mother, Janis Carse. Among the other family members attending the ceremony were Carse\u2019s sister Megan Brown, nephew Jackson Brown, and his uncle Rev. Richard Carse, who made remarks on behalf of the family. He was also honored with a moment of silence and the playing of \u201cTaps.\u201d<\/p>\n

MG Harry \u201cSkip\u201d Philips, past-president of Cadets of the Ole War Skule gave the keynote speech at the luncheon following the unveiling ceremony. Special guests at the event, held at the LSU Faculty Club, were Carse\u2019s fellow team members from the Baton Rouge Rugby Club and their families, including a dozen youngsters \u2013 perhaps future Tigers\/ROTC cadets — who added delightful note to the occasion. Rugby team member Hunter Guidry offered a remembrance of Nathan \u201cChuck Connors\u201d Carse and presented his mother with a rugby jersey inscribed with an appropriate remembrance of their hero.<\/p>\n
