A Twenty-Two Year Career in Counter-Intelligence

John Kenneth Colligan

Lieutenant Colonel, U.S. Army (Ret.)

John Colligan graduated from LSU in 1976 with a degree in criminology. After serving in the 3rd Battalion, 10th Regiment, he joined the 5th Infantry Division as counter-intelligence officer at Fort Polk, Louisiana.

Colligan was assigned to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in Belgium, then as Commander of Region I, 650th Military Intelligence Group in Italy and finally with the Foreign Science Technology Center in Virginia. In each position, his service was vital to preserving world peace and ensuring the military strength of the United States. After 22 years in intelligence, Colligan retired in 1995.

He became active in the Lake Charles, Louisiana, community, working with the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus and the Campfire Boys and Girls Club and he served on the Lake Charles Mayor’s Armed Forces Commission. Colligan passed away in 2007.
