A Marine’s heroic effort to feed and sustain the innocent victims of the ISIS conflict

Meredith Brown

Major, United States Marine Corps

Meredith Brown graduated from LSU in 1995 with a degree in English Literature. In 1996, she was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps and served as a Logistics Officer.

While assigned to UNITAS-99 and 24 Marine Expeditionary Unit-Special Operations Capable, Meredith deployed to several coastal countries in South America, Western Africa, Eastern Africa, and Europe. Her most challenging experiences came when she participated in combat operations in Iraq.

In 2008, Meredith deployed to Anbar, Iraq and was assigned as the Director of Women’s Affairs where she led a civilian-military partnership project with Land O’Lakes. The goal of the project was to provide widows with an alternate means of financial support rather than working for insurgents.
