Owen W. Monconduit

Brigadier General

Brigadier General Owen Monconduit’s military career began in 1980 when he enlisted in the Louisiana National Guard and was commissioned through LSU Army ROTC in 1981. He completed the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at LSU receiving his commission in May 1983.

Monconduit served as Commander, 225th Engineer Brigade, Louisiana National Guard, responsible for the training, mobilization and deployment of engineer elements in support of federal and state missions. He was also Deputy Director for Contracting and Purchasing in the Louisiana Department of Military Affairs.

As commander of the 528th Engineer Battalion, he completed a combat tour with Operation Enduring Freedom in May 2005 and took command of the 225th Engineer Brigade in May 2007.  In January 2009, he was promoted to brigadier general, becoming the first Black officer to attain the rank of general officer in the Louisiana National Guard. He completed a successful Operation Iraqi Freedom combat tour in November 2009.

Among Monconduit’s honors and medals are the Bronze Star Medal with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and the Louisiana War Cross with 1 Bronze Fleur-de-Lis.
