LSU paid tribute to students, faculty, and staff who gave their lives for America’s freedoms during a Memorial Day observance at the LSU Faculty Club on May 30. The observance, sponsored by the University and Cadets of the Ole War Skule, included a wreath laying and the playing of “Taps” by Tiger Band member Austin Bordelon.

State Rep. Nick Lorusso, a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, made the keynote address at a luncheon following the ceremony.

Cadets of the Ole War Skule President Richard Lipsey welcomed guests, the LSU Pershing Rifles posted the colors, and Alaina Richard, accompanied by the Bayou Brass Quintet, sang the National Anthem. John Woodard, student member of the LSU Board of Supervisors, brought greetings from the student body, and Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Stuart Bell spoke on behalf of the University.

Also taking part were Past President MG Harry “Skip” Philips, who asked guests for special remembrances of loved ones and friends; Past President Harvey Schwartzberg, who gave the invocation; and LSU Corps of Cadets Commander C/Col James Gegenheimer, who gave the benediction. Musical entertainment was provided by the Bayou Brass Quintet.
