Twenty-three of LSU’s ROTC cadets and midshipmen were commissioned on May 19 during the 2011 Spring Commissioning ceremony.
Twelve cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants from the Air Force ROTC program, including one who will graduate from Southern University; nine cadets were commissioned as second lieutenants from the Army ROTC program, including one who will graduate from the Southeastern Louisiana University; and two LSU students were commissioned from Southern University’s Navy ROTC program. The newly commissioned officers were acknowledged by Lt. Col. Mary L. McKeon, commander and chair of the Department of Aerospace Studies, at the Spring Commencement ceremony on May 20.

Among those commissioned, three were assigned to the Army Corps of Engineers, including two who will serve in Louisiana; six were classified as Air Force pilots; one will pilot remotely controlled aircraft; and two will work in intelligence.

Maj. Gen. James E. Rogers, commander of the 1st Sustainment Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., was guest speaker for the commissioning ceremony. His command is responsible for providing logistical support across the U.S. Central Command area of operations.
